Following the rebuke for his unwise alliance with Ahab, these chapters trace Jehoshaphat’s reforms and renewed seeking of the Lord, the miraculous victory over invading enemies through prayer and praise, and the tragic decline under his unfaithful descendants.

1 Kings 22 and 2 Chronicles 18 bring the kings of Israel and Judah together as Ahab and Jehoshaphat form an alliance to go to war against Aram at Ramoth-Gilead.

Following Elijah’s recommissioning, chapters 20 and 21 show God’s continued sovereignty over Israel’s wars and the deepening wickedness of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel, culminating in the murder of Naboth and Elijah’s bold confrontation.

In the midst of Ahab and Jezebel’s deep idolatry and wickedness, the prophet Elijah suddenly appears on the scene as God’s bold spokesman, bringing drought, miracles, and a dramatic confrontation with the prophets of Baal.

1 Kings 16 and 2 Chronicles 17, where the downward spiral of evil kings continues in Israel while a new season of godly leadership and spiritual reform begins in Judah under King Jehoshaphat.

We now move into 1 Kings 15 and 2 Chronicles 13–16, which cover the short reign of Abijah (Abijam) in Judah followed by the long reign of his son Asa. These chapters show a dramatic contrast between continuing unfaithfulness in Israel and growing faithfulness and reform in Judah under King Asa.

Following Solomon’s death, Chapters 10–12 record the tragic division of the united kingdom under his son Rehoboam, the unwise decisions that caused the split, the strengthening of the southern kingdom of Judah, and God’s judgment through the Egyptian invasion as a consequence of their unfaithfulness.

“1 Kings 12–14 warns us that pride, fear, and compromise can divide what God has joined and lead an entire people into idolatry — yet God’s Word stands firm, calling us to wholehearted obedience and humble trust in His sovereignty.”

Building on this wisdom, Proverbs 30 brings us the words of Agur, a man who humbly acknowledges his own limitations and cries out to God for truth, while Proverbs 31 presents the powerful teachings of King Lemuel, culminating in the beautiful and well-known portrait of the virtuous woman who fears the Lord.

In today’s reading we witnessed the heights of Solomon’s God-given wisdom and glory as the Queen of Sheba marveled at his kingdom and the newly built Temple, followed by the sobering warning of how compromise and divided devotion can turn even the wisest heart away from the Lord.

The Teacher shares proverbs on what is better in life, the value of sorrow and correction, the dangers of folly, and the importance of fearing God, enjoying His gifts, and living responsibly in light of coming judgment and eternity.

In Ecclesiastes 1–6, the Teacher honestly declares that life “under the sun” — apart from God — is vanity, like chasing the wind. Wisdom, pleasure, work, wealth, and achievements all leave the soul empty. Yet God gives beautiful gifts: seasons appointed by His hand, eternity in our hearts, simple joys in daily labor, and the strength of community (“two are better than one”).

In Proverbs 27–29, Solomon delivers practical wisdom for everyday life, calling us to humility, authentic relationships, integrity, and bold trust in God. These chapters contrast the paths of the righteous and the wicked, urging us to embrace refining friendships, confess sin, exercise self-control, and fear the Lord above all.

Proverbs 25 emphasizes wise leadership, humility, timely and gracious words, kindness even to enemies, and the importance of self-control. Proverbs 26 delivers strong warnings about the dangers of folly, laziness, gossip, and harmful schemes—reminding us that God’s justice ultimately prevails.

In 1 Kings 9, after Solomon finished building the Temple and his palace, the Lord appeared to him a second time to affirm His covenant and warn him about the consequences of disobedience. In 2 Chronicles 8, Solomon continued his building projects, strengthened cities, organized the workforce, and established orderly worship according to the commands given through Moses.

These five psalms form the closing section of the entire Book of Psalms. Each begins and ends with “Hallelujah!” (Praise the Lord!). They shift from individual praise → God’s care for His people → all creation → triumphant victory → universal praise.

2 Chronicles 6 records Solomon’s extended prayer of dedication in which he intercedes for the nation, asking the Lord to hear every prayer offered toward this house in times of repentance, need, or battle. In chapter 7, God responds dramatically with fire from heaven that consumes the sacrifices and gives His people the enduring promise that if they will humble themselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from their wicked ways, He will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.

the Ark of the Covenant is brought up from The City of David and placed in the Most Holy Place of the newly completed Temple. As the priests withdraw, the glory of the Lord fills the house in the form of a cloud so thick that the priests cannot continue ministering. Solomon then stands before the altar and offers a powerful prayer of dedication, blessing the Lord for His faithfulness and interceding for the people of Israel.

These chapters detail the bronze pillars, the massive molten Sea, the basins, tables, lampstands, altars, and other intricate bronze and gold work crafted by Huram-abi, showing the excellence and beauty given to the house of the Lord.

In 1 Kings 5–6 and 2 Chronicles 2–3, we see Solomon making detailed preparations: securing timber from Lebanon, organizing skilled laborers, and carefully following God’s instructions as he begins and advances the construction of the temple, a place for God’s name to dwell among His people.
